McKinney Child Sex Crimes Lawyer
Serving Texans Throughout North Dallas
Sex crime allegations are among the most serious of all criminal accusations and those involving minors are deemed even more egregious. The public, law enforcement, and the courts look for harsh punishments for anyone accused of such crimes. Unfortunately, the accused is often deemed guilty in the court of public opinion before ever having his or her day in court. These crimes not only carry heavy criminal penalties but a social stigma that can devastate the lives of the accused long before they have had the chance to defend themselves in the legal system.
At Malcolm Miranda & Associates, we understand that a child sex crime investigation or accusation is a life-shattering matter. If you have been accused of such an offense, your world has likely spun into chaos and out of your control. It is often presumed by everyone involved, from law enforcement to prosecutors, employers, co-workers, friends, and others in the community that you are guilty. Any denials of these allegations are likely ignored, leaving you to experience the most difficult episode of your life.
Our team is here to ensure that you have a voice, an advocate, and a representative whose sole job is to fight for you at every phase of this ordeal. We believe that everyone is entitled to the best possible defense, regardless of the nature of the charges. Furthermore, we follow the Constitution which presumes that you are innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

What Are Sex Crimes in Texas?
Under Texas Penal Code Chapter 21, sex offenses relating to children can include:
Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child. This involves two or more acts committed over a 30-day or longer period. These are committed by someone who is 17 years of age or older against a child less than 14. These acts can include aggravated kidnapping, indecency with a child, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, sexual performance by a child, trafficking, or compelling prostitution.
Indecency with a Child. This is committed against a minor younger than 17 and includes sexual contact. It can also include indecency by exposure.
Improper Relationship between an Educator and a Student. This involves sexual contact, sexual intercourse, or deviant sexual intercourse with a student by a public or private school educator at a primary or secondary school.
Other offenses can include statutory rape and online solicitation of a child.
Penalties in Child Sex Crimes
The penalties you will face in any child sex crime charge will depend on the specifics of the case, including the nature of the offense, your prior criminal history, and any aggravating or mitigating factors. For example, continuous sexual abuse of a child is charged as a felony carrying 25 years up to life in prison. Factors that may mitigate the consequences can include not having used force, duress, or threat of force against the alleged victim.
Conviction of a child sex crime can also lead to mandatory sex offender registration in Texas. Registration is required for at least 10 years. In the most serious cases, it may be for life. Your registration does not begin until you have been released from jail or prison. Failure to register is charged as a felony.

Malcolm Miranda was highly recommended to me, and for good reason. I needed a combination of help: defense as I was falsely accused in a CPS a case, and also defense in a hostile divorce case. He had the legal experience to help with the all the layers.
